The Napa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the 'Safe Firearm Storage' ordinance yesterday. This law, Chapter 9.20 of Title 9 in the Napa County Code, mandates the storage of firearms in locked containers or to be disabled with trigger locks when kept at home. The ordinance is a response to growing concerns regarding firearm-related accidents and fatalities, according to Napa County.

Napa County Board Chair Belia Ramos stated, "Ensuring secure firearms could markedly reduce accidental fatalities and also deter theft." Ramos also stressed that the ordinance's unanimous approval indicated the county's collective determination to protect its most vulnerable residents, including children and those prone to suicidal ideation.

The law is set to be implemented on November 9, aligning with similar ones adopted in several jurisdictions over the past year. The shared goal among these communities is enhancing public safety by stressing secure firearm storage.
