San Antonio's Southeast Side just got a major boost with the opening of the Greater Love Multi-Generational Cultural Community Center, a sprawling complex aimed at uniting and uplifting residents of all ages through a slew of services including senior day care, adult education, preschool, and after-school programs. According to a report by San Antonio Report, the $4.2 million facility, which spreads across 11,705 square feet, is located at 1534 Peck Ave. on the church’s grounds and is the result of voters' approval in the 2017 bond project.

During the opening ceremony, bathed in the brilliant Texan sun, Pastor Lester Gillespie, the driving force behind the center's inception, expressed his gratitude “It’s been the faith of these people, the persistence of those who were part of our collaboration, and God,” he acknowledged a diverse crowd that had gathered, comprising members of his congregation, locals, and long-time neighborhood residents some of them who may not attend regular church services but felt a strong connection to the community embodied in this new facility. "This is special, especially for this community. Especially for the East Side, especially for this church, … because of the impact it’s going to have on this community," San Antonio Report quotes attendee Tamara Glenn in their coverage of the event.

The center's multi-faceted funding sources include $2 million from the 2017 bond program, $500,000 from the 2022 bond program, significant contributions from the District 2 office infrastructure management fund, Bexar County, and the Texas Education Agency, showing a strong collective commitment to its success. Tireless advocacy by State Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, and Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert played a crucial part in the realization of this project, with each emphasizing the importance of resilience and the potential positive impact on the local populace during the opening speeches as San Antonio Report details.

Local Tyrone Darden, who hails from the neighborhood, underscored the necessity of such a center saying, "In a low socioeconomic community, it’s hard to get the amenities you pay for so there has to be a provider to give the services to you." The new center he believes is key to that, aligning social service providers with the needs of both old and young, creating a hub where resources are concentrated for the common good, according to San Antonio Report
