Hatch & Coop

The folks behind Jake's Sandwich board recently opened Hatch & Coop, a fried chicken spot that offers elevated fast food, sides, and salads.

Look for items like popcorn chicken with fries and house-made dipping sauce; fried cauliflower steaks with cole slaw; a "Cabo Salad" with roasted chicken breast, greens, and veggies tossed in a sriracha-ranch or lemon vinaigrette dressing; and a buttermilk-fried chicken sandwich with homemade slaw in a toasted King Hawaiian's bun.

With a three-star Yelp rating out six reviews, Hatch & Coop is still finding its way, but it's early days.

Yelper Jonathan L., who reviewed Hatch & Coop on December 9th, wrote: "Tasted like what you'd expect from a good ole' fried chicken sandwich. Crispy exterior with a slaw/mayo sauce to help alleviate the fat grease."

Kate S. noted: "Went here with my boyfriend and we both got the spicy fried chicken sandwich. We both liked the fried chicken itself, and the spicy sauce added a nice kick. The food came out quickly, and the employee was friendly."

Hatch & Coop is open daily from 11am–9pm.

Andy's Chicken

Fishtown eatery Andy's Chicken recently expanded with a new location on South Street West.

The menu offers Korean fried chicken, along with a number of sides and dipping sauces. Chicken combos offer a breast, thigh, wing, and drumstick, and customers can pick their flavors, which range from sweet chili to Cajun.

Sides include onion rings, cole slaw, and butter egg rice. Customers can also order Korean rice and noodle dishes, such as bulgogi with white rice and egg, and kimchi fried rice.

Andy's Chicken's current Yelp rating of four stars out of 22 reviews indicates the newcomer is finding a warm welcome.

Yelper Abraham K., who reviewed Andy's Chicken on December 21st, wrote: "This is some of the best Korean fried chicken that I've had. The batter is so light and crunchy; chicken itself is so tender, juicy, and flavorful. The half chicken is so filling."

K.T. noted: "I rarely give five stars but this chicken was good, not [the] usual Korean fried chicken, as it was not super crispy because of the sauce, but it was crispy enough. The breasts were cooked to juicy tender perfection. Jesus thank you, it's been a very long time since I've had chicken that is not homemade that...[tastes] like it was fried in a cast iron skillet."

Andy's Chicken is open Tuesday–Sunday from noon–9pm. (It's closed on Monday.)

Based in Maryland, chicken wing franchise America's Best Wings has recently opened in Spruce Hill. The chain, which has nearly 40 locations along the East Coast, offers a wide range of chicken wings.

Flavors include lemon pepper, Thai chili, and honey garlic. Customers can also order sides that include crinkle-cut fries, jalapeño poppers, and more.

America's Best Wings's current rating of four stars out of five reviews on Yelp indicates the newcomer is finding its way.

Yelper Sabrina R., who was one of the first users to visit America's Best Wings on August 30th, wrote: "Wings were cooked great and in a nice mild buffalo sauce. We ordered five extra sauces on the side to try. First place: 24 carat gold was our favorite, super tangy, not too sweet, amazing flavor."

Summer H. noted: "Seriously such good wings and fries and jalapeño poppers. Large portions."

America's Best Wings is open Friday and Saturday from noon–midnight, and Sunday–Thursday from noon–11pm.
