Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the top ice cream and frozen yogurt spots in Catonsville, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of where to fill the bill.

1. The Crepe Escape

Topping the list is The Crepe Escape. Its extensive menu of treats runs from sweet and savory crêpes to bubble tea and smoothies. The rolled ice cream, made while you watch, comes in house flavors like chocolate Nutella, strawberry shortcake and The Dark Side, a mix of vanilla and black sesame ice cream. You can also design your own by mixing flavors and choosing the toppings. Located at 724 N. Rolling Road, the crêperie is the highest-rated ice cream spot in Catonsville, boasting four stars out of 74 reviews on Yelp.

2. Sweet Frog

Next up is Sweet Frog, situated at 852 N. Rolling Road. Part of a nationwide chain, this outlet features the company's signature pink and green design scheme and self-service approach to frozen yogurt. Choose from a rotating selection of 16 flavors and then finish your creation with the dozens of toppings on hand. Staff will weigh the results, and you'll pay accordingly. Expect flavors like caramel brûlée, mango and butter pecan. With four stars out of 54 reviews on Yelp, it has proven to be a local favorite.

3. Caffe Di Roma

Caffe Di Roma, located at 1719 Edmondson Ave., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving it four stars out of 43 reviews. This neighborhood spot has a full coffee and food menu, but what may stand out to ice cream fans are the 24 flavors of gelato. Each is made in-house on a weekly basis. Get it in a sugar or waffle cone or have it made into a shake. Flavors include Oreo cheesecake, cookies and cream, and orange creamsicle. 

4. Opie's Ice Cream

Opie's Ice Cream is another much-loved go-to, with 4.5 stars out of 15 Yelp reviews. The small walk-up shop started in 1984 selling snowballs, the shaved-ice-and-syrup combo, and it still has them today, in 36 flavors from banana to watermelon. Soft-serve flavors are vanilla, chocolate and a twist of the two, which can be customized with toppings like peanuts and Reese's Pieces. Head over to 1603 Edmondson Ave. to see for yourself. 5. You Scream Ice Cream

Finally, check out You Scream Ice Cream, which has earned 4.5 stars out of 12 reviews on Yelp. The family-owned parlor has some classic ice cream combinations, like sundaes, banana splits, shakes and floats. Or, get a scoop or two of Hershey's ice cream in flavors like coconut or Moon Pie. There are also Italian ices, fresh fruit smoothies, slurries and frozen yogurt. You can find the shop at 821 Frederick Road.
