The weekend is full of lively cultural events in Oakland, from a celebration of global traditions to a town hall with a Presidential candidate. Here are three fun events to check out in the coming days.

Elizabeth Warren town hall

Interested in seeing a Presidential candidate in person? Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) is hosting a town hall event in Oakland tonight, as she campaigns for the Democratic nomination for President in 2020. With a field of 24 candidates all seeking the nomination, voters can ask questions, hear responses and learn more about Warren's platform.

When: Friday, June 31, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Where: Laney College Soccer Field, 812 5th Ave.

Oakland Carnival

Now in its sixth year, this event, hosted by SambaFunk, celebrates the cultural tradition of Carnival, with global music, soca and salsa dancing and booths honoring cultures from the Caribbean to Latin America to Africa. Free and family-oriented, the event will also feature an international food court, an African marketplace and youth game zones.

When: Saturday, June 1, 12-7 p.m.

Where: Mosswood Park, 3612 Webster St.

'East Bay Dances'

The Oakland Ballet Company is presenting a showcase of top East Bay dance troupes this weekend, in disciplines ranging from modern dance to jazz to Mexican ballet folklórico. The lineup includes Jubilee American Dance Theatre, Emergence Dance Company, Savage Jazz Dance Company and more — along with "Jazz Vistas" and "Jangala," two shows from Oakland Ballet's own spring program. 

When: Sunday, June 2, 4-6 p.m. 

Where: Laney College Odell Johnson Performing Arts Center, 900 Fallon St.
