Oakland weekend: Oakland A's 'Stranger Things' fireworks, beer festival, moonlight kayaking, more

Deviate from the traditional brunch and celebrate Father's Day this weekend with a "Stranger Things"-themed fireworks show; a beer, wine and music fest; moonlight kayaking and more.

Can't wait for the third season of "Stranger Things" to premiere on July 4? You can get in the mood for Netflix's spooky hit with a fireworks show put on by the network at this Friday's Oakland A's game. Following the A's game against the Seattle Mariners, fans will be invited to sit on the outfield grass to enjoy fireworks set to selections from the show's score.

When: Friday, June 14, 6:37 p.m. (game time, fireworks after game)

Where: 7000 Coliseum Way

Montclair Beer, Wine and Music Festival

At this fundraising event for a new Montclair Village Plaza, visitors can enjoy live music from four local bands, play around on a pedal-powered "musical bike," and bring the kids to a fun zone with puppets and bubbles. But the centerpiece is a tasting of more than 40 craft beers and artisan wines, with all proceeds from an unlimited tasting pass going to fund the new public plaza.

When: Saturday, June 15, 12 - 6 p.m.

Where: 2000 Mountain Blvd.

Price: Free admission, or $30 for an unlimited tasting package (with an online "buy one, get one free" deal until June 15 at 11 a.m.)

Dads and Jazz

Dads take the spotlight at this Father's Day-themed festival, combining jazz, beer, golf and more on the grounds of the Dunsmuir Hellman Historic Estate. Dads and their families can catch live performances from Frederic Yonnet, Estair Godinez and The Bue J'Z; compete in chess or domino tournaments; sample craft brews at a beer tasting; and enjoy a home-packed picnic or an on-site barbecue buffet (for an extra cost). 

When: Sunday, June 16, 2 p.m. 

Where: Dunsmuir House, 2960 Peralta Oaks Ct.

Price: $35 general admission, $250 for an eight-person table; kids under 12 free

Moonlight kayaking at Jack London Square

For a more relaxed Father's Day experience, set your sights on the skyline at sunset as you kayak in the Oakland Estuary, near Jack London Square. A leisurely paddle on calm, glassy water gets some added sparkle from the sun setting overhead. Kids must be at least 10 to paddle in a double kayak, and 16 to ride in a single one. 

When: Sunday, June 16, 7 p.m.

Where: Jack London Square, 209 Water St.

Price: $89 for a single kayak, $149 for a double kayak
