Chesa Boudin, former San Francisco District Attorney, has been appointed the founding Executive Director of the brand-new Criminal Law & Justice Center at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. In an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle, Boudin announced he will not be running for office in 2024. The Center aims to advance legislative initiatives, impact litigation coalitions, policy papers, and statistical analysis, with one of its first initiatives being the promotion of the California Racial Justice Act to eliminate harsher sentencing for people of color.
