Tragedy Strikes as Small Plane Crashes in Los Angeles Soccer FieldSource: Google Street View

Earlier today, tragedy unfolded as a small plane crashed into a soccer field located at 401 W Westmont Dr in Wilmington.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) alert, the plane carried two passengers, both of whom were transported to the hospital in at least critical condition. The pilot, still trapped in the wrecked aircraft, was extricated by LAFD responders. Miraculously, there was no fire, and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration. Councilman Tim Mcosker, who represents the area, expressed relief that the crash did not occur on a weekend when the park is usually busy, as it could have resulted in a much larger tragedy according to KTLA.
