
A tragic incident unfolded at Dockweiler State Beach on Saturday when a 2-year-old girl was fatally struck by an RV. The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at about 5:45 p.m. in an RV park located near the 12200 block of Vista Del Mar. According to CBS News Los Angeles, the tragedy occurred when a woman, related to the child, accidentally hit the young girl while maneuvering the recreational vehicle.
On Sunday, officials from the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner identified the victim as 2-year-old Merida Castillo. While specific details of their relationship were withheld, police confirmed that both the victim and the driver are related. An investigation into the full circumstances of the accident continues.
In a separate report by KTLA, it was noted that the mother was behind the wheel when she heard a noise, causing her to discover the devastating reality that she had struck her daughter. Sadly, the toddler was described as a 2-year-old Hispanic girl who died shortly after the accident occurred.
