A new wave of development is set to dramatically transform the heart of San Jose with the proposal of a new multi-family residential project. Slated for 1271 and 1279 East Julian Street, this initiative is looking to replace the existing single-family houses with a towering seven-story building, housing a modern community of 140 apartment units. The project's details were publicized on the city’s website, fueling conversation among residents.

According to the documents released by the City of San Jose, the project plans to not only introduce a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments but also to ambitiously provide enclosed parking on the first and second floors. The proposed building is to actively feature office space, courtyards for communal use, a community gathering facility, and rentable storage space, designed to possibly increase the quality of life for future tenants.

Spanning almost a full acre, the project will merge two parcels into a single lot, based on the Tentative Map approval (File No. T22-033). The parcels are currently registered under the Assessor’s Parcel Numbers 249-66-009 and 249-66-010.

The public has been invited to weigh in on this major development, with a prompt to review and comment on the Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND).
