In a late-night chase through the streets of Massachusetts, a suspected burglar driving a stolen U-Haul was nabbed by State Police after a failed storage facility break-in. According to Massachusetts State Police News, Alexander Encarnacion, a 29-year-old man from Providence, R.I., was arrested in Lynnfield following a canine unit's intervention.

The drama started around 10:30 PM on Monday when Billerica Police kicked off the pursuit of the 2008 Ford Econoline U-Haul van, along with another vehicle, involved in a suspicious activity at a local storage facility, both vehicles took off with the van entering Route 3 south and a State Trooper close behind, the sedan that was part of the attempted robbery escaped attention and remains at large.

During the intense chase, State Troopers deployed stop sticks on Route 95, which the suspect hit but continued driving, eventually crashing the van into an unmanned Lynnfield Police cruiser. The suspect, wearing an orange ski mask, made a dash on foot, prompting a search that ended with Trooper Christina Cavagnaro and her police dog, Thor, apprehending Encarnacion on Lincoln Avenue just before midnight.

Encarnacion, who suffered bite wounds in the takedown, was treated at Lahey Hospital in Peabody and then booked, facing multiple charges including negligent operation of a motor vehicle and the resisting arrest after the hospital, he was held on $5,000 cash bail which he did not post, and he was due in Peabody District Court this morning.

While Encarnacion is set to face justice, Billerica Police continue to investigate the storage facility attempted break-in, seeking to understand the broader context of the crime and to locate any accomplices that aided in the incident. More information may surface as the case unfolds in court.
