Originally performed to honor the team's first national championship back in 2004, the routine had the U of M dancers gliding to the iconic Aerosmith track, leading to a silver win at the recent College Dance Team National Championships and, unexpectedly, a viral sensation.

"Would it be crazy to do this, would it be like completely out of left field to bring this back for its 20th anniversary? And you know, we presented it to the seven seniors, and they were like, Let's do it," U of M assistant dance coach Tia Tumbleson told CBS News Minnesota. The routine has not only won the team accolades but also a nod from rock legends Aerosmith, who gave the team a shoutout by sharing the video on their social media saying "dance on."

Despite the Jazz routine landing second place, behind the Ohio State Dance team's performance to Frank Sinatra's "My Way," it's the University of Minnesota's choreography that's lighting up news feeds. Users on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram have been quick to express their awe, leading to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz chiming in with a seal of approval: "This is badass," he posted on social media.

Recognition is sweeping through the campus as well, with students approaching team members in admiration. "I'm definitely noticing on campus, some students just coming up to us in class and being like, are you in the University Minnesota dance team?" dancer Aubree Elste recounted to CBS News Minnesota. "And it's just an honor to be able to say yes." With millions of views and growing, the U of M Dance Team's "Dream On" routine has indeed put them under a spotlight that transcends the dance floor, propelling them into a whirlwind of internet fame that shows no signs of slowing down.
