In a dramatic rescue on Alton Bradford Road in Hopkinton, RI, law enforcement and animal welfare groups have saved 27 golden retrievers from a home where they were being unlicensed bred in squalid conditions. According to a Hopkinton Police Department Facebook post, the Hopkinton Police, Hopkinton Animal Control, RI Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and an Environmental Scientist all collaborated on the operation conducted on March 8.

The retrieved dogs, comprising seven adults and twenty puppies, were cooped up in the small residence of a breeder who has neglected their wellbeing. The resident, when confronted by authorities, was cooperative and surrendered the animals to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The RI SPCA will soon commence an adoption process for the retrievers, once the dogs have received medical clearance.
