Man and Dog Saved in Daring Cliffside Rescue by San Diego Fire-Rescue Department at Blacks BeachSource: San Diego Fire-Rescue Department

A daring cliffside rescue unfolded on Monday when a man and his dog found themselves trapped on a steep bluff at Blacks Beach, San Diego. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. in an area known as Indian Canyon, after the dog tumbled down the cliff, prompting the owner to descend after it, only to become perilously stranded, this information was detailed in a recent Facebook post by the department.

In response to the precarious situation, lifeguards from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department quickly established a twin-line rescue system and lowered a rescuer to reach the man who had warned that his canine companion wasn't friendly, lifeguards subsequently provided a muzzle to safely handle the dog during the operation. Once the victim was secured in a rescue harness, the rescuer then attached the dog rescue harness to the system and they managed to safely haul them both to the safety of solid ground, as described in the department's social media report.

The rescue operation concluded without injury to either the dog or its owner, and the man's face was obscured in images taken during the rescue to protect his privacy. This detail was included in the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Facebook update. The department has not disclosed the names of either the man or his dog following Monday's incident.
