McAllen Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Uploading Over 2,000 Child Pornography FilesSource: Google Street View

A McAllen man who had a previous sex assault conviction is headed back to prison, this time for a heinous bout of child pornography charges, U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani's office announced.

38-year-old Oscar Ramirez Jr. received a lengthy 180-month prison sentence after a federal judge threw the book at him, Ramirez had plead guilty last October to uploading over 2,070 files, including 64 videos of child pornography, to his Google accounts, some of which were over 20 minutes long and, on top of his incarceration, Ramirez must pay $20,000 restitution to the known victims that continue to suffer from their abuse now forever immortalized online, according to details from a Justice Department release.

U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez considered victim impact letters before deciding Ramirez's fate, stating that child pornography is "not a victimless crime" and, will have to endure a lifetime of supervised release upon completing his prison term, where he must adhere to numerous restrictions including limited internet access and a mandate to avoid contact with children.

Authorities traced uploading of the illicit content back to Ramirez's IP address in May 2022 and upon raiding his McAllen residence in September, they unearthed explicit images and videos, some captured through a window and a bathroom vent, Ramirez, who identified himself in the despicable footage after law enforcement executed a federal search warrant, will also once again be required to register as a sex offender.

The vile activities of Ramirez were brought to light by the Homeland Security Investigations Rio Grande Valley Child Exploitation Investigations Task Force, as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative striving to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse, more information about the program and internet safety can be found on the DOJ's PSC page within the resources tab.

Ramirez is currently awaiting transfer to a federal prison where he will start his sentence, details of his imprisonment location have yet to be disclosed.
