In a heartwarming gesture that proves public transit can also be a vehicle for goodwill, Metro recently granted the wish of 10-year-old Jacob Crandall, who is battling a critical illness. In collaboration with the Mid-Atlantic Make-A-Wish Foundation, Metro turned an ordinary bus into a birthday chariot sporting Jacob's name prominently on the destination sign, delivering an extraordinary experience for the youngster and his family.

For Jacob, whose birthday wish was as specific as it was unique, the joyride took place on March 13, and, according to WUSA9, it lasted around 30 minutes. Starting from Metro’s Western Bus Division, the family's roundtrip was speckled with warm moments, including a special bus-themed cake and some Metro swag handed out upon their return. Participating in the festivities were notable figures such as Metro's Senior VP of Bus Services, Leroy Jones, and Mid-Atlantic Make-A-Wish CEO Leli Creedon.

This touching event marked the first time Metro has coordinated with Make-A-Wish, a known nonprofit tasked with fulfilling the dreams of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Speaking with OKC Fox, a statement from Metro acknowledged the significance of making Crandall's wish a reality, launching its partnership with the nonprofit organization.

Adding to the special day was an escort provided by the Metro police. In a statement obtained by DC News Now, "We know Jacob and his family are going through an incredibly challenging time right now," shared Leroy Jones. "But we hope we can bring them a little bit of joy today and create some really good memories." The involvement of the Metro police ensured not just the safety, but also an added layer of excitement for Jacob's distinctive Metro bus ride.
