Students from Blue Hills Regional Technical School received an eye-opening experience as they marched through the corridors of the Suffolk County House of Correction. The tour, which included the facility's Medical Unit, kitchen, Vocational Education Division, and the Common Ground Institute, was aimed at giving the pupils a firsthand look at the inner workings of the correctional system, according to SCSDMA.org.

Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins along with his department staff expressed their gratitude toward the Blue Hills Regional Tech community for showing interest in the correctional system. The tour not only endeavored to educate, but also to highlight the importance of the innovative programs offered by the department that aim at preparing inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

During their visit, the students also viewed the Property area and Education Division, indicating the various avenues through which inmates can work towards personal development and gain new skills. The opportunity to seat for candid conversations with the incarcerated women provided a rare glimpse into the personal stories and challenges faced by individuals within the system.
