Early Sunday morning, Boston's Back Bay neighborhood turned into a race track as vehicles were reported drag racing and performing stunts such as donuts, prompting approximately 30 emergency calls to police. According to Boston.com, callers reported around 40 people causing a commotion and about 15 cars driving the wrong way near Dartmouth and Marlborough streets, with the activity extending up and down Commonwealth Avenue.

The chaos, which escalated to involve professional-looking cameras capturing the mayhem, proved a challenge for law enforcement. Officers, looking to directly address the situation, were forced to abandon their vehicles and proceed on foot, as a "multitude" of cars clogged the avenue, creating an impromptu blockade. A police report, quoted by NBC Boston, described vehicles facing the wrong way on one-way streets, with burnouts and donuts causing visibility to significantly diminish due to the smoke.

The incident also turned hostile when officers, attempting to clear the area, were met with objects thrown in their direction, including a glass bottle and fireworks. Amidst the disarray, the police also noticed that the event was being documented by people carrying what appeared to be professional recording equipment, a detail also reported by WCVB. One of the area's residents even provided video evidence that shows the extent of the unruly gathering.

Boston Police Department and State Police units responded to assist with the situation, with one officer issuing five parking violations for double-parked vehicles on Commonwealth Ave. Vehicles from multiple states, including Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Illinois, were found blocking the roadways, as indicated by collected license plate numbers. This too was reflected in the official police report, which mentioned 41 vehicles obstructing passage through the neighborhood.
