These skimmers, designed to steal credit card information from unsuspecting patrons, were unearthed by employees across various locales; first detected on March 25 at a spot on 1st Street, Northeast, followed by another instance on M Street, Southeast, and a string of discoveries that burgeoned in both Wisconsin Avenue and Corcoran Street, with authorities confiscating the skimming devices as evidence yet the perpetrators remain at large, their identities shrouded in mystery.

In the wake of these incidents, the MPD has issued a reminder for citizens to exercise caution: before swiping a card, one should ensure the machine is secure, unable to be tampered with, inspect the card reader for any signs of interference, and compare suspect machines to others nearby if possible.
