Residents of Fairburn can finally sip from their taps without fear, after city officials announced Wednesday that the boil water advisory, spurred by a pesky pump malfunction at Chattahoochee Water Treatment plant, has been lifted. The Department of Watershed Management (DWM) gave the all-clear, confirming that subsequent water sampling showed no signs of contamination and the public water system was safe for all uses. "The City's drinking water meets or exceeds standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EP) as required by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act," announced DWM in a statement obtained by 11Alive.

Earlier this week, DWM had slapped the precautionary measure on Fairburn and parts of South Fulton after a troublesome pump at the water plant went kaput then the city was besieged by water pressure issues, but as officials noted, it was all out of an abundance of caution. In a statement obtained by FOX5 Atlanta, DWM said "The pump is operable and DWM is monitoring operations and systems pressures," which suggests that while the crisis is over, vigilance remains high to keep the H2O flowing just right.

During the advisory, the locals had been elbow-deep in precautions, boiling water for at least one minute past a rolling boil before even thinking about drinking, cooking, or brushing their teeth with it, specified the DWM. The department also advised against smacking lips on any public water fountains in the affected area, reinforcing just how widespread the impact was.

Now though, it's back to business as usual, with the DWM playing the role of the neighborhood hero – ensuring taps are not spitting out anything unwelcome into the glasses of Fairburn's residents, "DWM is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of residents across the City of Atlanta and the City of Fairburn," officials said – and in the same breath, handed out an apology for any inconvenience this soggy saga might have caused, as cited in their press update. Rest assured, the drip drops of disruption have ceased, for the now anyway.
