The event, which will run from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., is part of a proven program that has already collected over 1,500 guns in the area.

To make homes and neighborhoods safer, South LA residents are offered gift cards in exchange for their firearms. With a track record spanning almost two years, Hahn emphasized the community's role in the initiative's success. "We're going back to where it all started," Hahn said in a statement. "My first gun buyback almost two years ago was right here in Lynwood and it kicked off this successful series of buybacks that has made it clear time and time again that people want a safe way to get rid of their firearms," stated Hahn.

This event is Janice Hahn's tenth buyback and continues a series that has seen firearms from various South LA locations collected and destroyed. It also offers residents 100 gun locks donated by Women Against Gun Violence, aiming to prevent tragedies stemming from accidental discharges or unauthorized use.

To partake in the buyback, officials have set out specific guidelines for the safety of public and deputies alike. Participants should arrive in a vehicle, with guns unloaded and placed in their trunk, not by foot or public transit. Depending on the weapon turned in, folks will get different amounts in gift cards: non-functioning guns or just parts net $50, working handguns, rifles, and shotguns get $100, ghost guns $200, and assault rifles fetch the highest at $300. Special cases like 3D and homemade guns will be assessed on-site on the day of the event, with the caveat that gift card amounts are limited and subject to availability, according to the event flyer.
