Memphis Shaken by Daytime Shooting Spree as Gunmen Fire on Homes, Sparking Community FearSource: Google Street View

Memphis is on edge after a brazen daylight shooting spree that unfolded in a Raleigh neighborhood. According to FOX13, four gunmen unleashed a storm of bullets on Sunday afternoon, hitting several homes and vehicles with around 70 shells found at the scene. A witness, Chynna Sample, recounted the horror as she ducked down in her car to avoid being noticed, with her house "full of kids that Sunday."

In the aftermath, the Memphis community grapples with fear and an unshakable trepidation that has crept into mundane moments. "It's traumatizing because you should never have to explain to a five-year-old what gunshots are and what to do. It's stressful," Sample told FOX13 in an interview. Her son, present during the shooting, has since been afflicted by nightmares and a persistent fear.

The chilling incident was caught on video released by Memphis police, showing four masked perpetrators attacking the community with firearms. According to Action News 5, the suspects exited a vehicle and began firing as they moved through the neighborhood just before 4:30 p.m. on April 21. The suspects made their escape on foot, with no arrests yet reported.

Adding to the fear, residents are speaking out about the violence that has shattered their sense of safety. Through the gunfire, a neighbor told WREG that her children dropped to the ground while watching television, finding themselves victims of an all too familiar scenario. Another added, with a voice that has been numbed by too frequent violence, "I wasn't really that scared. I wasn't (scared) at all."

As reported by WREG, this incident contributed to over 148 calls to police within a quarter-mile radius of the area in the past year. Some residents are considering leaving Memphis for their children's safety. "I just feel like I kind of want to get away from the city at this point," a concerned parent relayed to WREG. The search for the suspects continues, as authorities urge anyone with information to contact Memphis CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
