Rollover Crash in Jamaica Plain Disrupts Green Line Service, Driver Escapes UnharmedSource: Google Street View

Boston's streets were thrown into chaos over the weekend when a rollover crash in Jamaica Plain brought trains to a standstill, authorities said. The accident, which occurred near the intersection of South Huntington Ave and Cloburn Street, flipped a car on its roof directly onto the MBTA tracks, disrupting the Green Line's E Branch service. According to WHDH, the woman driver trapped inside the overturned vehicle appeared to be OK after crawling out, and was seen receiving treatment from first responders on scene.

Train service on part of the Green Line ground to a halt Saturday evening when the blue car crashed at about 5:13 p.m., with service disruptions lasting until nearly 7:30 p.m, Boston 25 News reported. Eyewitnesses saw the aftermath as the driver managed to escape the wreckage. "I said ‘That’s not a door slamming’ so I came out and then I saw the car flipped over," one local resident Janet Owens recounted, "But she crawled out and walked away and talked to the ambulance drivers and they took her away."

The impact of the collision was severe enough to also damage a parked car alongside the tracks. As crews worked to clear the scene and restore train service, authorities began to delve into the investigation of how this accident happened. While the investigation is still underway, no further details about the cause have been released at this time.

Such incidents are not uncommon in the area, with residents expressing concern over the frequency of crashes. "I’m not sure if there is something wrong with track, or like or we need one more red light over here," local Naresh Kumar pondered in a statement to Boston 25 News. He and others have noted previous serious accidents at this same spot, pointing to a persistent danger that has yet to be adequately addressed.

The quick work of emergency services helped to avert any severe injuries in this instance, and the return of Green Line service provided some relief to the public transport disruptions. Nevertheless, the scare served as a harsh reminder of the ever-present risks on Boston's bustling roads, and the questions about their safety that remain in the air.
