A disturbing act of violence unfolded on the south side of San Antonio early Saturday morning as a woman was run over by a vehicle, allegedly at the hands of her husband. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jacob Villegas, has been taken into custody facing charges for the brutal attack, as per local authorities.

San Antonio police were called to the scene around 3 a.m. in the 500 block of Fair Avenue. There they found a woman grievously injured next to a parked vehicle. Initially, the situation was unclear and under probe, with officials trying to determine whether the woman had been hit or had jumped from the vehicle, according to KENS 5. Jacob Villegas, reportedly the driver of the vehicle, was detained on site for questioning.

Villegas was under investigation for driving while intoxicated and it was later determined by authorities that after the victim exited the car, he intentionally drove over her, resulting in internal injuries and fractures, "SAPD says he intentionally 'drove over the victim causing internal injuries and fractures,'" as stated by KENS 5. These injuries were severe enough to be considered life-threatening.

The victim was swiftly transported to a local hospital to receive the necessary medical attention. Villegas, on the other hand, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Details from the San Antonio Police Department highlighted by KSAT confirmed the arrest, noting that "Once Villegas’ wife exited the vehicle, he purposely ran her over."
