Santa Rosa Man Arrested After Evading Sonoma County Deputies in High-Speed ChaseSource: Facebook / Sonoma Sheriff

A Santa Rosa man found himself in cuffs six days after giving deputies the slip in a high-speed chase, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office reported. The suspect, Marco Aguilar, 38, of transient status from Santa Rosa, initially caught law enforcement's attention for making a turn without signaling and sporting expired registration tags.

The incident occurred around 8:00 PM on April 7 when a deputy tried to stop Aguilar, but the conversation was stalled as the suspect refused to lower his window. Even after being identified through records, revealing he was on pre-trial release with conditions that granted law enforcement authority to search him or his possessions at any time, Aguilar remained defiant. He then allegedly took off, sparking a pursuit.

In this brief but perilous chase, Aguilar reportedly pushed speeds of around 77 m.p.h., blew through a stop sign and swerved into the oncoming traffic lane before disappearing from deputies' view. A "be on the lookout" advisory was subsequently issued to regional law enforcement, according to the Sonoma Sheriff's Office.

Fast forward to April 13, when a break in the case occurred. Deputies were tipped that Aguilar's car was parked at a motel on Cleveland Avenue. Persistent knocking yielded no response from the room Aguilar had rented, leading a deputy to enter with a key card provided by the motel staff. Aguilar's run concluded with his arrest and subsequent booking into jail for an array of charges including felony evading police and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He now faces $115,000 bail after a judge approved a bail enhancement.
