A slew of lane closures starting April 24 could snarl traffic until May 1, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Major routine maintenance and new installations are to blame, hitting roads across a 21-county stretch in Region 4, with Dyer, Gibson, Carroll, Haywood, Madison, Fayette, Lauderdale, Shelby, and Tipton Counties all on the docket for disruptions.

In Dyer County, a bridge repair whip on US 412 over the North Fork Forked Deer River means you're looking at single lanes each way and reduced speeds until the fix is in, not to mention a full shut down of the highway for beam replacements on April 25 and 26 – a headache detour via US 51 south to SR 210 and back to US 412 detailed for the suffering motorist. Similar resurfacing projects on SR-104 and SR-181 are set to piggyback the traffic troubles there, TDOT reports.

In Gibson and Carroll Counties too, where US 79 upgrades trigger lane closures that'll last the duration of the project, while on- and off-ramps along the future I-69 in Obion County remain roped off, though the mainline's running with reduced speed limits.

In Madison County, where sections of US-412 will get a facelift requiring closures as teams tackle the tarmac, and I-40 is bearing the brunt of an April 25 squeeze play for a crash investigation, with eastbound lanes at mile marker 83 pinched by law enforcement and maintenance boots on the ground for those perplexing pavement probes.

Shelby County's got a serving of construction chaos too, with a cable barrier installation on SR-385, the widening of SR-14 near Tipton County nibbling on shoulder space, and Airways Blvd grinding down to lesser lanes until June's first sunrise.
