County leaders gathered to mark the occasion, spotlighting the direct response to an uptick in emergency calls linked with the area's growth spurt. In a statement released by WilCo's official website, County Judge Bill Gravell highlighted the dire need for the facility, noting a staggering "103 percent" increase in call volume for Emergency Services District 4 from 2017 to 2022.
Outfitted with one ambulance, the station operates non-stop and is manned by a team of six medics, ensuring around-the-clock readiness. In response to the bustling neighborhoods it's set to serve, the facility includes not just the essentials for emergency medical services but also sleeping quarters and office space for the dedicated Williamson County EMS (WCEMS) staff. Adding their voices to the chorus of approval, Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long expressed her gratitude for the alliance with ESD #4, foreseeing improved response times in one of Central Texas's most rapidly expanding regions, thanks to the partnership.
Financially, ESD 4 took the reins for funding the medic station's establishment, while Williamson County chipped in a significant $300,000 to facilitate the project. The collaborative effort, as underscored by Long, hinges on the seamless integration between fire departments, cities, and the county 'to continue our award-winning EMS services.'
Not to be overlooked in the slew of proud statements, Williamson County EMS Director Mike Knipstein conveyed his excitement for the added emergency vehicle, illustrating the station's role in upholding the county's pledge to pre-eminent care.
