An armed carjacking in Atlantic City, NJ, ended with the arrest of a 31-year-old man after he allegedly tried to forcefully gain entry into a woman's vehicle with a child in the backseat. NBC Philadelphia reports that the incident occurred early Saturday morning at the intersection of Bellevue and Pacific Avenues. The woman did not immediately call 911 but instead found an officer later and reported the attempted carjacking.

After receiving a description of the suspect from the woman, Atlantic City Police were able to promptly locate the man, identified as Tuwan Gainer, at Florida and Pacific Avenues. According to WPG Talk Radio, Gainer attempted to quickly flee on foot and actively resisted arrest before being apprehended by police. He was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun at the time of capture.

Upon arrest, Gainer was charged with a multitude of offenses including carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Breaking AC revealed that this isn't Gainer's first brush with the law; he had recently been released from prison on February 7 after serving time for previous weapon and theft convictions.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and Tuwan Gainer has since been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. In light of the serious allegations, the public is reminded that despite the charges, all accused individuals are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Atlantic City Police Department continues to investigate the incident and encourages anyone with information to step forward.
