Dallas is calling all animal lovers to step up as Dallas Animal Services teams with BISSELL Pet Foundation to combat an urgent shelter crisis. The "Empty the Shelters" event, running from May 1 to May 15, slashes adoption fees in a bid to quickly move furry friends into loving homes. With 410 shelters across 43 states participating, Dallas is part of a nationwide effort spearheaded by the foundation known for fighting pet homelessness, an effort highlighted as critical by Cathy Bissell herself.

"Our nation’s animal shelters are facing a capacity crisis and need your help now," said Cathy Bissell, founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation, in a statement. Adoptions have slacked while a flood of pets, given up by owners grappling with economic and housing strife, has left a heartbreaking glut of pets in need. But this isn't just about finding a new pet - it's about making an impact, about practically saving a life while bringing joy into your own, according to the City of Dallas.

Adoptions at Dallas Animal Services aren't just a transaction; they come bundled with a full package ensuring a healthy start for the new family member. This includes vital vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and a microchip to keep tabs on your pet. Additionally, there are perks such as a custom ID tag, a voucher for a complimentary health exam, and a week of virtual dog training, as noted by Dallas Animal Services, as per the City of Dallas.

Those ready to open their hearts and homes to a new companion or to just temporarily foster can drop by 1818 North Westmoreland Road. Opening hours are tailored to accommodate almost any schedule, with the shelter opening doors from late mornings to evenings throughout the week, ready to match prospective pet owners with their new pals.
