Macomb Man Indicted on Felony Murder Charges for 2022 Detroit Mass ShootingSource: Google Street View

A Macomb man has been indicted in a Detroit mass shooting that left three people dead and two wounded nearly two years after the violent incident erupted at what authorities described as a "drug house". Jony Saad Alatto, 32, is facing an array of severe charges including three counts of felony murder, according to WWJ Newsradio. The August 6, 2022, incident also led to charges of attempted murder, armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, and multiple counts of felony firearm.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, having pieced together the case over the better part of two years, announced Alatto's charges with a conviction could see him spending the rest of his life behind bars. On the morning of the shooting, Detroit police responded to the 13800 block of Saratoga Street after receiving reports of gunfire. They found one victim outside of the residence with a gunshot wound, as described by The Detroit News. After hearing screams from within the home, officers discovered four additional victims, three of whom succumbed to their injuries.

During his arraignment on May 24, Alatto was ordered jailed without bond. A probable cause conference is slated for June 7, with a preliminary exam to follow on June 14. Prosecutor Kym Worthy, fighting to illuminate the path to justice, underscored the tenacity of the investigating forces. "This was difficult to put together but because of the consistent and diligent work of the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, I am able to announce charges today," Worthy said in a release obtained by FOX 2 Detroit. "I am confident that justice will prevail, and that this defendant will be held to account."

Alatto reportedly stormed into the house wielding a gun, shot all five victims, and proceeded to rob the place before fleeing. The violent spree was part of a broader trend of shootings that took place in the city, as there were three mass shootings within a week during the summer of 2022. Considering the gravity of the charges and the prosecutor's assurance, many are watching closely as the wheels of justice begin to grind.
