Minnetonka is kicking off the summer with a change in city office hours, folks. Starting this Friday, May 24, the city hall, along with the police department, fire station 1, and public works buildings will be cutting their Friday hours short. In a move to embrace the lazy days of summer, Minnetonka city offices are set to close at the ungodly hour of noon on Fridays through Labor Day, according to an announcement on the city's official website.

But don't you worry — if you've got business to tend to, Monday through Thursday remains business as usual, from 8 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. It's just the Fridays that are taking a little breather, giving the employees a chance to catch a bit more of that Minnesota sun before it bids us adieu for another day. And before you start fretting about safety or potholes, rest easy knowing that recreation facilities, and programs, as well as the essential fire, police, and public works services, are not affected by these summer hours.

Seems like Minnetonka has decided it's high time to slow down and sip on the proverbial glass of lemonade. Despite what you might think, this isn't an impulse decision. The city has done its homework and found that foot traffic lightens up come Friday afternoons in the summer. So, they're making like a tree and leaving — early, that is.

While the public may need to adjust their schedules slightly, the heart of the city's services remains steadfast. The public lobbies will be open and at your service during the revised times.
