Road-Rage Incident on 605 Freeway in Whittier Leaves Driver with Gunshot WoundSource: Google Street View

A driver was left with a bullet graze wound after a road-rage-triggered shooting on the 605 Freeway in Whittier, authorities say. The altercation began on the westbound 60 Freeway near Crossroads Parkway this past Sunday, around 8:30 p.m., when a black Lexus and a black Chevrolet Tahoe got into it, according to KABC. The conflict escalated, and the Tahoe's driver allegedly shot at the Lexus as they reached the Beverly Boulevard off-ramp.

The Lexus driver, later identified as Ronald Winans Jr., felt pain and discovered he was bleeding, prompting him to seek refuge at a family member's house before calling 911, the California Highway Patrol stated. Despite the gunshot wound to his lower back, Winans Jr. managed to transport himself off the freeway, find safety and ultimately was taken to USC Medical Center, says CHP. The shooter, who was last seen driving the Tahoe with a toolbox attached to the trailer, is still on the loose.

Separately, KTLA reported the incident occurred on the southbound lanes of the 605 Freeway near Beverly Boulevard. Responders found the victim on Acacia Avenue in Whittier, where footage showed emergency personnel treating him on a front porch before he was transported to the hospital.

No details on what exactly sparked the roadside argument have been revealed, and the condition of the victim is not immediately known. The suspect's vehicle is described as a Chevrolet Tahoe, which was pulling a trailer, though no further description has been provided by the CHP spokesperson. The investigation into the road rage shooting continues.
