A man was arrested and now faces attempted murder and assault charges after allegedly stabbing two German tourists near Santa Monica’s busy promenade on Sunday evening. The suspect, identified as Larry Ameyal Cedeno, 29, is accused of carrying out an unprovoked attack on the 1500 block of 4th Street close to 8 p.m., causing alarm in the normally peaceful coastal town.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Cedeno is charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon. "This violent behavior not only affects the immediate victims but also affects the sense of safety and security within our community, especially among those visiting from other areas," DA George Gascón said in a statement. The suspect was quickly apprehended after the police rushed to subdue what had emerged into a chaotic scene near Parking Structure #7.

The victims received immediate medical attention and were transported to the hospital with injuries. Cedeno, whose date of birth is April 20, 1995, was taken into custody and is being held at the Santa Monica Jail. If convicted of the charges, he faces a potential maximum sentence of life in state prison. Bail is recommended at $2,155,000, as the case moves forward through the justice system.
