In a somber nod to the men and women who paid the ultimate price for their nation, Seattle City Light conducted its annual Memorial Day Flag Raising Ceremony, bringing together employees to remember fallen service members. The utility, which boasts a number of veterans among its ranks, held the event on May 23, as reported by the company blog post.

Interim General Manager and CEO Dawn Lindell spearheaded the ceremony at the North Service Center, taking the opportunity to stress the importance of safety and extending thanks to the volunteers of the day. Meanwhile, Bill Devereaux, Director at the South Service Center, presided over the gatherings which were touched by the solemn words of John McCrae's "In Flanders Fields".

Both centers saw the Presentation of Colors, a deeply revered military tradition, carried out by the Naval Junior Officers Training Corps Color Guards. The North ceremony featured cadets from Everett High School, and the South had representation from Liberty High School, creating a link between the youth and the legacy of those service members who came before.

The ceremonies wound down with members of City Light reflecting on the day's significance. At the North Service Center, Electrical Construction & Maintenance Supervisor Tomas Todd elaborated on the sacrifice and courage embodied by the uniformed, and at the South, the sentiments were echoed by Field Operations Supervisor Ed Hill. "reminding us of the bravery and selflessness of those in uniform," the company blog post noted.
