A Shavano Park family is grappling with the aftermath of a hit-and-run that left a teenager injured and they're offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the perpetrator's vehicle. Ivin Vasquez was behind the wheel on NW Military Hwy when a black SUV struck his car on May 18, according to a report from KENS 5. "I had blacked out for a couple minutes," Vasquez recounted in an interview with the outlet. "The neighbors had pulled me out of the smoking vehicle. I came out super like disoriented, and I really didn't feel like I was there. I was so confused."

Vasquez suffered a concussion, whiplash, and has been experiencing chest pains and nausea since the accident. "The driver took off and did not render aid when Ivan was hurt," said Angelica Vasquez, Ivin's mother, during the same interview. The young man's car, a significant graduation present from his parents, sustained severe damage in the incident, with a jammed front door and a mangled front bumper.

The situation for the Vasquez family is further complicated by the fact that Ivin's father is battling stage four terminal cancer and the financial strain is forcing them to relocate. "It's the first car that his dad has ever bought him," Angelica Vasquez explained to KENS 5. Ivin has since had to resign from his job and drop his summer classes due to the transportation challenges posed by the damaged vehicle.

The City of Shavano Park Police Department is currently looking into the case. A spokesperson for the department issued a statement, saying, "We have opened a case and initiated an investigation, which is ongoing. We are optimistic that we can identify the suspected driver and would ask anybody with more information to contact the City of Shavano Park Police Department." The family and law enforcement alike are urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the apprehension of the culprit, who left the scene without offering assistance to an injured teenager.
