The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken into custody a 16-year-old Earl Wilcox III of Ocilla, charging him with Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault after the death of 14-year-old Marcaulen Downs. The arrest was made following a shooting incident that occurred on Monday, June 24, 2024, on Frank Road in Ocilla.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. on the day of the shooting, the GBI was called to assist the Ocilla Police Department. According to a press release from the GBI, Downs suffered a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead upon his arrival at the Irwin County Hospital. As a result, Wilcox was detained and is currently being held at a Regional Youth Detention Center.

The circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation as the GBI continues to gather evidence and assess the situation. They are actively seeking information from the public that might aid in their ongoing investigation.
