In a move signaling a reshaping of the Alameda County District Attorney's office, DA Pamela Price has named Assistant District Attorney Evanthia Pappas as the interim Chief of Prosecutors, as reported on the office's official website yesterday. The appointment is part of a larger reorganization that features three new divisions emphasizing justice and gender issues.

Pappas, who has a 25-year prosecuting career, now heads various prosecution units across the office’s branches and leads special prosecution teams, including those focused on hate crimes, major crimes, narcotics, organized retail theft, and auto theft. Previously, she focused her efforts as the head of the Domestic Violence Team at the Family Justice Center.

ADA Pappas, known for her specialized background in domestic violence and special victim cases, brings decades-long experience in this field. She has a notable tenure managing the Domestic Violence Unit in San Francisco. Pappas's resume boasts roles in San Diego and Sonoma County, where she was engaged in a broad array of criminal prosecutions, including homicide cases. Emphasizing her commitment to justice, DA Price said via the Alameda County District Attorney's office press release, "Evanthia Pappas is a well-respected leader in our office and has more than two decades of experience as a prosecutor with an unwavering commitment to justice and an inspiring pursuit of fairness and integrity within the criminal justice system."

The shift in roles also prompts a timely salute to former Chief Assistant DA Otis Bruce Junior, whose commitment and leadership have been pivotal during the transition period, as he now ventures into various civic roles, including his recent induction as the President of the Rotary Club of San Rafael. Bruce also continues his leadership as the President of the Board of Directors of the Marin Athletic Foundation, among other civic and philanthropic endeavors.
