Arizona's MFCU Lauded for Key Role in National Health Care Fraud Enforcement ActionSource: Google Street View

The Arizona Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) has once again proven itself a key player in the annual National Health Care Fraud Enforcement Action, playing a significant role in the bust of several healthcare fraud schemes. According to the Arizona Attorney General's Office, the Arizona team particularly stood out for their extensive participation during the focused case charging June 10-26.

Attorney General Mayes, as per AZAG.gov, spoke highly of the MFCU's efforts. "I am deeply proud of the work of my office’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit," Mayes said. "The work they are doing is garnering national attention – and with good reason." The AG's office brought charges against a total of 30 defendants through the State Grand Jury. These charges aim to fully address a diverse array of criminal activities, ranging from drug diversion to exploitation within behavioral health billing operations and have particularly impacted Arizona's Tribal communities and other vulnerable groups.

The types of crimes charged during this period are symptomatic of a larger healthcare fraud issue that has been aggressively pursued by Mayes’ administration. Investigations have unearthed offenses including drug diversion by licensed prescribers, abuse by a reputable dentist, and dealings by a dental imposter, as per the Arizona Attorney General's Office. Furthermore, several cases involved in behavioral health billing fraud were revealed, along with disgraceful instances of patient brokering.
