Authorities have reported the arrest of 27-year-old Brian Gonzalez in connection with a homicide that took place in Holyoke earlier this month. On the morning of June 24, 2024, Gonzalez was apprehended by a collective task force which included the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, members of the District Attorney’s SAFE Task Force, the State Police's Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and the Holyoke Police Department. He is facing charges for the alleged murder to David Rivera, a 31-year-old Springfield resident.

On June 1, Holyoke Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 400 block of High Street. One male victim with gunshot wounds was found and subsequently transported to Baystate Medical Center with injuries that were not deemed life threatening. A second victim, later identified as David Rivera, was discovered in a nearby vehicle with a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the same medical center. Investigations following the incident developed probable cause and led to an arrest warrant issued for Gonzalez from the Holyoke District Court, charging him with the murder.

As reported on the Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni's official Facebook page associated with the investigation, Gonzalez was arraigned at Holyoke District Court following his arrest. He is currently being held without bail, and the court has set the date for his next appearance on July 18, 2024.
