Coon Rapids Farmers Market Expands with New Vendors and Activities Every WednesdaySource: City of Coon Rapids

Coon Rapids residents and enthusiasts of locally-grown produce have something to look forward to each Wednesday this season. The Coon Rapids Farmers Market has set up shop in the parking lot of the Coon Rapids Ice Center, showcasing an abundance of Minnesota-grown fruits and vegetables. This summer market, which operates from 3 to 6 p.m., however, will take a brief hiatus on July 3rd, aligning with the Fourth of July celebrations.

Expansion is the theme this year, with market-goers set to experience a broader array of vendors than ever before. Ryan Gunderson, Coon Rapids Recreation Supervisor, mentioned in a statement released by the official city website, "Traditionally we've partnered with the Anoka County Growers Association." He added, "We're still partnering with them, but we've opened it up, offering vending slots each week." Crafters and artists have joined the usual fare, an inclusion that extends the market's appeal beyond the fruit and veg aficionados.

Among the new faces is local craftsman Ken Yelle, who sells wood turned decor. His foray into crafting began as a COVID-19 lockdown hobby and has since evolved into a regular presence at the market. "I started during COVID and I had to have something to do so that's when I started doing this and I haven't stopped yet," Yelle told the city's communication. The market also welcomes purveyors of sweet treats, including Ben Follese, owner of Good Doughnuts, who expressed his excitement at the market: "I'm so glad that we brought a bunch of apples," as per the city report.

Vendors offering services, such as solar energy solutions, will also be present, diversifying the market's offerings even further. The third Wednesday of every month will bring special activities, catering to kids and seniors—a testament to the inclusive nature of the market.
