In a display of support and commitment to the Special Olympics, members of the Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) braved the rain last Friday to participate in the Minnesota Special Olympics torch run. The EPPD officers carried the torch for three miles, a segment of its journey to the 2024 Special Olympics Summer Games, according to a statement in their most recent blog post.

The torch was transferred between several groups throughout the day; EPPD received it from the Minnetonka Police Department, and later handed it off to two Special Olympics athletes, at the Eden Prairie Center parking lot. Despite the rain, the Flame of Hope continued on its way, eventually reaching its destination at the Stillwater Area High School, where the weekend event took place.

Moreover, the Torch Run doubles as a fundraiser, where the collected donations are aimed at covering the costs associated with sending athletes to the games.
