Residents of Lake Havasu City are contending with a surge in electric bike and scooter thefts, a trend that extends to road and mountain-style bikes across the area. Reports have escalated since January with more than 15 bicycles taken, particularly in the downtown business area, according to Lake Havasu City's official news release. The Lake Havasu City Police Department (LHCPD) has begun to actively advocate for residents to take more robust measures to safeguard their possessions.

To prevent further incidents, LHCPD suggests that owners should not only record identifying details of their bikes—such as make, model, and serial number—but also securely store their vehicles out of sight. "Use a quality lock, attach a GPS tracking device, and remove the battery from the electric bike, if possible, when the bike is left unattended," as stated by Lake Havasu City. Despite recent arrests connected to the thefts, the problem persists, propelling the police to strengthen their plea for community vigilance and cooperation. A reward of up to $500 is presently being offered for information that could decisively lead to arrests.

Further encouraging community involvement, LHCPD has identified six bicycles in their possession categorized as found property, which to date have not been linked to any reported thefts. If you are missing a bike, please contact the Property and Evidence Unit at 928-854-0808 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, for inquiries and appointments to identify and retrieve your personal property
