A suspect has been detained on multiple counts of felony assault and robbery after a shooting in Downtown Portland led to one person being injured. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, June 22, 2024, where Portland Police responded to a violent encounter that left a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to the Portland Police Bureau's news release, a sergeant on duty was approached by a group at the corner of Southwest 14th Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street and discovered the victim. Despite the two suspects fleeing the scene, a female suspect was apprehended near Southwest 19th Avenue and West Burnside Street within minutes, following a broadcasted description over the police radio.

While the male accomplice was initially detained, it was later found that he was unrelated to the incident and subsequently released. Meanwhile, the sergeant quickly provided first aid, using a tourniquet on the victim's leg to stem the bleeding, until paramedics from Portland Fire & Rescue and AMR arrived for advanced care. The victim was then transported to the hospital with an injury deemed non-life-threatening.

Authorities discovered during the investigation that three victims were robbed at gunpoint during the altercation. One of the victims, a 35-year-old woman, suffered a head injury from being struck with the pistol; "She declined medical transport," as stated by the Portland Police Bureau report. Another victim, a 46-year-old man, received a scrape to his neck, thought to have been caused by shrapnel.

Major Crimes Unit detectives of the Portland Police took over the investigation, leading to the booking of Jayda Z. Wise, a 20-year-old from Portland, also known as Demarion Z. Wise, into the Multnomah County Detention Center. Wise is facing charges of Robbery in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree, as listed in the three counts brought against them.
