Chaos briefly ensued in a Clackamas County parking structure Friday evening when a white Kia Sportage, revealed to be stolen and carrying three people, ended up at the center of a Law enforcement showdown. According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. at the Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center's parking lot after Portland Police Bureau’s air unit tracked the vehicle into the area.

The scene escalated when deputies, alongside a PPB unit, found and confronted a suspect vehicle. It began ramming into several patrol vehicles on the scene. During the altercation, one deputy discharged their weapon, wounding the vehicle's driver. An update from the Sheriff's Office confirmed that "no deputies or officers were hurt" and that the passengers in a suspect vehicle remained uninjured.

Following the shooting, deputies performed life-saving measures and the injured man was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The deputy involved in the shooting has since been placed on paid administrative leave. This is a move that aligns with the department's policy pending investigations.

Currently, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office, together with the Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team, now leads an ongoing investigation into the June 28 incident. This collaborative inquiry includes detectives from various local law enforcement agencies providing assistance, as updated information was disseminated by the Sheriff's office. The identity of the involved deputy has yet to be released to the public.

Officials assure that additional details will become available as the investigation by the Major Crimes Team, comprised of members from Canby, West Linn, Milwaukie, Molalla, and Oregon State Police, progresses. Whatever the results, the incident is a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of law enforcement's everyday encounters. Further information related to the shooting will be released by the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.
