Memphis has seen a wave of carjackings, and recent arrests bring attention to the issue. The Memphis Police Department apprehended three individuals—including two teenagers—following a series of carjackings predominantly in the Whitehaven area. These incidents began with a theft at Roses Discount on May 22, and a flurry of crimes occurred on Wednesday, as reported by Action News 5.

On that morning, the suspects embarked on their crime spree, starting at a Church's Chicken on South Third Street. A victim was forcibly removed from her vehicle at gunpoint. The assailants continued to attempt to take another's freedom at OneMain Financial on Elvis Presley Boulevard, where gunfire was reported during an attempted carjacking. "The first happened at Church’s Chicken on South Third Street. The victim was sitting in her 2018 Toyota Avalon when she was approached by a suspect with a gun who forced her out and stole the vehicle", according to Action News 5.

This same day saw additional carjackings and a robbery. FOX13 Memphis reports that subsequent thefts occurred at Superlo Foods on Lamar Avenue, followed closely by an accident involving the previously stolen Chevy Malibu. The chaos culminated with a robbery at Kroger on East Shelby Drive later in the afternoon.

Law enforcement efforts ultimately tracked down the suspects at Tulane Apartments. "Three suspects, two 15-year-old juveniles, and 22-year-old White, were found at the residence and taken into custody by the Memphis Police Department," detailed WREG News Channel 3. The charges laid included multiple counts of carjacking, aggravated robbery, and attempted first-degree murder, among others. The suspects' spree, which seemed to brazenly defy both law and the personal sanctity owed to their victims, now heads into the legal system for judgment and, in due course, perhaps a semblance of justice and resolution for those affected.
