According to their statement, some 70 firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze on the 1700 block of 24th Street in West Oakland. The emergency call was received at about 10:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they were met with the sight of a roofing supply company's warehouse vigorously burning.
Within hours of their confrontational engagement with the fire, crews were able to contain it primarily to the main structure, preventing flames from aggressively spreading to the adjacent yard. To keep the local community safe from the smoke's potentially perilous inhalation, fire officials advised West Oakland residents, through their social media, to keep their windows closed. This advisory, relayed by the Oakland Fire Department, sought to ensure minimal health impact from the incident.
