Peoria High School, which has been ensnared in a child sex crime investigation involving a former basketball coach, will see a shift in leadership, per the Peoria Unified School District. With the 2024–25 academic year approaching, district officials have announced that Landa Tartaglio, who served as the school's principal for the past three years, has been put on administrative leave and will eventually be replaced. This decision follows the arrest of Patrick Battillo, known locally as "Mr. ORNG" and a former coach at the school, who is accused of sex crimes involving minors.

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Tartaglio has been on leave since April pending an internal investigation. The district's spokesperson indicated that while Tartaglio's successor has not been announced, she remains an employee of the district and has not been terminated. This development comes in the backdrop of accusations against Battillo, alleging that he solicited sexual content from a teenage boy in exchange for money. After facing charges of luring a minor for sexual exploitation and child sex trafficking, Battillo pleaded not guilty during his arraignment.

During a governing board meeting, as reported by 12News, opinions on Tartaglio's removal were split. Some in attendance voiced their support for Tartaglio to return, attesting to her contributions as a leader to the school and its students.

Much criticism has been directed at the district for its handling of the situation, particularly regarding transparency. Janelle Wood from Black Mothers Forum, representing the parents of the basketball team, expressed discontent over district officials' failure to adequately communicate with parents of the affected students. "As principal it is her duty to protect the children," Wood said, as per 12 News. With Tartaglio now on administrative leave, the school is vocal about its commitment to finding a new principal capable of maintaining Peoria High's standards.
