Phoenix police are intensifying their search for a suspect or suspects responsible for the death of Lealdo Enrique Pedrego Tolano, who was fatally shot on Interstate 10 near downtown Phoenix. According to a report by ABC15, the incident happened earlier this month and has since been ruled a homicide by investigators.

Law enforcement officials discovered the victim, a 39-year-old man, after responding to a call about a vehicle stationary on the highway in the early hours of June 10. After speeding to the scene near 7th Avenue, just after 3:30 a.m., officers found Tolano with a gunshot wound. This shooting marks the second of three such freeway incidents that have occurred within a short span around the Valley. In the first incident, reported by ABC15, a man was seriously injured on I-10 near 75th Avenue. Not long after, the Department of Public Safety reported a shootout where both victim and shooter discharged weapons on U.S. 60 near Higley Road. At this stage, Sgt. Myra Reeson informed AZ Family that the shootings do not appear to be connected.

The victim, now identified as Tolano, was a father of five, all minors, and is remembered by his family for his love for the outdoors and as a diligent provider. To aid in the investigation, Phoenix police and Sgt. Reeson are urging anyone who might have driven through the area with dash-cam footage or who observed anything unusual to come forward. The smallest detail could be pivotal, as stated in the report by AZ Family, "The smallest detail you may not think is important may be very important to our investigators," said Sgt. Myra Reeson. "We're asking the community to come forward an please help us bring closure to this family."

As the probe into Tolano's death continues, investigators remain hopeful that public contributions can assist in piecing together the circumstances that led to the tragic highway shooting. His family, reflecting on the times spent off-roading and camping with Enrique, will miss him profoundly. To provide information related to this case, people with potential leads are encouraged to contact Phoenix police or submit a tip anonymously via Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish speakers. Community responses so far have yet to yield any substantive clues, so the call for greater public involvement holds a heightened sense of urgency.
