Pima County's "Diamonds in the and Sky" Celebration Combines Baseball, Fireworks, and Charity on Fourth of JulySource: Pima County

The star-spangled tradition of "Diamonds in the Sky" is returning to Pima County this Fourth of July, bringing with it a perfect blend of America's favorite pastime and pyrotechnics. According to the Pima County Newsroom, the Kino Sports Complex will play host to a festive intersection of baseball and fireworks, with college all-stars from the Sun Belt College Baseball League taking on a team of Mexican College all-stars presented by the Mexican Baseball Fiesta.

The event won't just be about throwing balls and lighting fuses—it's also paired with a charitable bent to fight food insecurity. In a season where high fives and home runs abound, guests are invited to play a part in supporting the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona by bringing non-perishable food donations or simply forking over a single dollar for admission. "There is no better way to celebrate Independence Day than with baseball and fireworks," Sarah Horvath, director of Kino Sports Complex, told Pima County Newsroom.

And they're not playing small ball with that support, either. Last year, the partnership between the County and the food bank pitched a home run by providing over 12,000 meals to families in need. This year's collaboration is especially crucial, as it comes at a time when food drive momentum typically slows down, while demand for aid remains unyieldingly high. Malea Chavez, CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, highlighted the importance of the contributions: "These donations from the July 4th Diamonds in the Sky Celebration come at a critical time of year," she explained, as per the Pima County Newsroom.

The festivities will take place at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium, located at 2500 E. Ajo Way. Gates are set to open to the fanfare of families and fans at 5:30 p.m., with the first pitch poised to cross the plate at 6:30 p.m.
