A gray semi-truck became an unplanned roadblock on I-80 eastbound after catching fire near Pomona Street. The incident, which took place yesterday at about 9:04 am, prompted a response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Crockett Fire Department (CFD), according to CHP Contra Costa. While the firefighters tackled the flames, CHP shut down lanes 3 and 4 to traffic and the Pomona Street/Crockett exit.

The closure also affected local ramps, with Caltrans sealing off the Cummings Skyway on-ramp to I-80 Eastbound, redirecting vehicles through Crockett. Although an exact time for reopening the closed sections has not been provided, motorists have been directed to access Crockett via San Pablo Ave. No injuries were reported during the fire incident.

Despite the inconvenience caused to morning commuters, the fast actions of CHP and CFD prevented what could have escalated into a dire situation. Only lanes 1 and 2 remained open, allowing continued access across the Carquinez Bridge while emergency services and road management teams worked on the scene. The semi-truck driver managed to get the vehicle off to the right shoulder, although it partially blocked the exit ramp.
